Born from journeys through Tuscany

We opened in 1990, in a city where Italian cuisine was mostly thought of as pizza in a box.
We did things differently. As a trattoria – in the true Italian sense of the word. Not for fashion, nor for design. From conviction.

Today, we are still here: between the Elizabeth and Liberty Bridges, right in the middle. With a view of Gellért Hill, the delicious smells of our kitchen in the air, and the same belief in simplicity we had over a quarter century ago, when we first opened.

What is a Trattoria – and what does it mean to us?

A trattoria is the soul of Italy.

A family place where flavours aren’t reinvented but respected.
Where the chef is friendly, ingredients are Italian, and the menu is just like in Tuscany: classically-structured, seasonal and always full of fresh ingredients

This is the philosophy of our Italian chef, our reason for having our own specially selected wines, and why we won’t compromise on ingredients.

Because this isn’t a trend. It’s what we do.

Authentic Tuscan cuisine in Budapest

Tuscan cuisine is all about purity. It's not overthought – just perfect ingredients, skilled hands, pure flavours.

We don’t leave anything to chance: our meats, hams, cheeses, and wines come straight from Tuscany, unfrozen, with certificates of origin. We personally know our suppliers and visit them regularly in Tuscany.

Our steaks are grilled the Florentine way: over charcoal, simply seasoned with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.
Our pizzas are made in true Roman style, baked in a wood-fired oven, with a thin, crispy crust and plenty of fresh toppings.
Every irresistible dish we serve carries the craft and passion of the many Italian master chefs who have helped shape our kitchen over the years.

A true trattoria without wine is like pasta without sauce. That’s why our menu is enriched with over a hundred unique wine specialties.

Trattoria Toscana's rich wine cellar features selected Italian and Hungarian wines, including bottles that can’t be found anywhere else in Hungary.
Behind the wine list lies dedicated work: monthly tastings, decades-long relationships with producers, and personal visits to Italian and Hungarian wineries.
This is how we guarantee what you expect from a Tuscan restaurant: that the wine offers as much as the food.

For over a quarter century, the same goal has driven us: that the Italian way of life is not just decoration on the wall, but present on the plate, in the glass, and in the dining experience.
